About the Creator

Hi, I’m Lesley. I’m a Senior Intelligent Automation Developer working for the NHS, a new mum, and just to make sure I really do keep myself busy, the creator and writer behind the Ethics & Bias in Technology (EBIT) blog. It’s great to have you here!

Why I Started This Blog

Technology fills every nook and cranny of our lives, whether we want it to or not. As technological advancements vastly outpace the general public’s knowledge, how can we make sure that it works for us, and not the other way around?

As the tech-geek in my circle, friends and family would come to me with questions like “is my phone listening to me?”, “what is a cookie”, and “how does artificial intelligence actually work?”. I didn’t always have the answers, but I loved researching and finding out.

In my research, I realised that it can be hard to find answers that aren’t filled with jargon and have real, relatable examples. I started to wonder, with tech no longer just for the technical-minded, how can we make sure that not only is it accessible to all, but that it’s fair? Thus, the EBIT blog was born.

Background & Expertise

I’ve been working in IT for over a decade, with roles spanning software development, data warehouse development, and intelligent automation in both private and public sectors. My journey into coding wasn’t exactly ‘typical’; Maths & IT were my weakest subjects in school. Instead, I thrived in English, Drama and Psychology. Despite my unconventional beginnings, I discovered a love for tech that’s shaped my career.

Beyond the Blog

When I’m not researching, writing, or navigating the joys of new motherhood, you’ll likely find me indulging in my favourite hobbies: watching films (especially horror), bingeing a new series, or crocheting something fun.

I’m so excited to have you join me on this journey and I hope you enjoy your time here!
